Strep throat
contagious
Is strep
throat contagious? This is a question that
arises in a lot of minds worldwide. The answer to this question can easily
be figured out by those who know its origin. I believe that almost every
one of us knows that it is a bacterial infection, so this ultimately leads
to the conclusion that it is contagious.
Now that you
have the answer to your question ‘ Is strep throat contagious’, I
would like to mention that in comparison with other illnesses like
influenza, it is not half as contagious. But all those of you suffering
from this disease should still keep a check on who you shake your hands
with or who you sneeze on. It is primarily because our bacterial friend
streptococcus pyogene usually likes to hang out in the nasal cavity or
throat. So if we sneeze or cough, or shake our hands, or kiss someone, it
will ultimately result in its transmission. So during that period, you’ll
have to put a stop to such of your extra curricular activities.
‘Is strep
throat contagious’ is a question followed by another one. That how
long does it stay contagious for? My friends, this infection lasts for
no more than 48 hours, if prompt treatment is provided. But this condition
is what spoils it all. It is because at first, the doctors need to test;
whether the patient is suffering from strep throat or a sore one. This
test gives its results after 48 hours. So at times, the doctors start
antibiotics without waiting for the results due to its contagious aspects.
Recently,
another method has been discovered which only takes 15 minutes for
completion. Though this method leaves 20% of the streptococci, if the
results are positive, treatment can be started simultaneously and if
negative, the 48-hour-test begins!
